ah no, the whole point is to do 8 mana, upheavel. Then play land and mox, play tog, and still have enough to force spike whatever your opponent does. Of course, you can evade that alltogether if you have shoal, or some other free counter

Ido guy - you are wrong. When a card with converted mana cost X is in play, X=0. The ONLY time when you do count the X is when the card is on the stack. So if you have an Ivy elemental in your hand, its CMC is 1. If you play it using 7 mana, x=6 and its CMC is 7, on the stack. Once it reaches play, ...
