The thing about the red card is, is that it passes some of reds biggest enemies- Circle of protection (and it's likes), and protection from red. At with quite alot of fat, I think the red card isn't all that bad, in limited.

The mage doesn't affect it. The mage affects cards only. The scepter copies cards. Copies aren't cards. Thus, the mage wouldn't stop the scepter from playing it's imprinted spell.
